JORDAN COOPER

OPTOMETRIST l BOPTOM (HONS) l TPA

Jordan is a therapeutically qualified optometrist, with a particular interest in ocular surface disorders and dry eye disease. Jordan holds a Bachelor of Optometry (First Class Honours) from the University of Auckland and is currently working towards his PhD.

Hailing from the mighty Waikato, Jordan initially had his sights set on becoming a pastry chef, having worked for several years in hospitality. Deciding to keep this as a much-loved hobby, Jordan moved down south to study. Here he got a glimpse of optics during a physics paper at university which prompted him to sit in on some eye exams with his cousin, who is also an optometrist.

He quickly realised that this was something he could see himself doing, with optometry offering a perfect balance of healthcare, science, and meaningful patient interactions. Throughout his studies, Jordan achieved top academic results, earning himself multiple awards.

Jordan involved himself in research early on in his studies, initially receiving a summer research scholarship. He has since remained enthusiastic about research focussing on diseases of the ocular surface. He is currently completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. His research explores how individual eyelid characteristics and blinking patterns contribute to meibomian gland dysfunction, a leading cause of dry eye disease. Jordan is also actively involved in teaching where he supervises final year optometry students managing patients with dry eye disease, among various other responsibilities.

Beyond his professional pursuits, maintains his love of cooking and baking. He enjoys playing golf, hiking, and reading, and is an accomplished Scottish snare drummer, having competed both nationally and internationally since the age of 10.

Jordan is passionate about delivering high-quality, personalised eyecare and believes in working collaboratively with his patients to achieve the best outcomes.
